Donna Van Toen has asked me to speak at SOTA and I’d I was honoured to say yes. Detailed information about the conference will be forthcoming but I know enough that I’ve been offered a two-hour slot this year. I feel so honoured. The topic I’m going to be speaking on is the fixed stars, one of my favourites and an area in which I’m constantly doing research. For those who don’t know, the fixed stars are the natural lights in the sky that do not appear to move in relationship to each other. The fixed stars form the constellations, carriers of ancient myth and legend…
The talk will be titled “Wish Upon Your Fixed Stars!” and it will discuss the fixed stars from the perspective of their aspirational nature and exploring the xenophobia that lies behind many of the negative interpretations of the fixed stars that have been handed to us through the astrological tradition.
